Alex Edwards

Intro to me

My name is Alex Edwards and I am an INFJ according to the Meyers Briggs personality test. That means that I succeed by perseverance, originality and a desire to do whatever is needed or wanted. It is important for everyone to understand their Meyers Briggs or at least their personality to learn most effectively throughout their life.

So, what does it mean to be intelligent? There are now many types of intelligences called multiple intelligences; these are classification of how we learn. My multiple intelligence strong points are naturalist and visual/spatial. This means I have to see something to learn and I work well in outdoor classes.

Along with being an INFJ as well as a visual learner, I also have dyslexia. When I was young reading was a big challenge for me. I could not read a simple sign, let alone a book. I would try so hard to read but I never seemed to improve. Then I came to Denver Academy and I was reading small chapter books in no time, because I learned how I learn.
Today I am an avid reader and I have learned how to get ahead of my frustrations and how to use tools to get my work done. I have learned to take one thing at a time and not overwork myself.

Intro to millenials and generations

Generations are defined by popular beliefs and events. The Baby Boomers were a generation of babies born after all the solders came home from WWII, followed by generation x. The X’er generation is categorized as the generation that followed the Baby Boomers starting in 1965. Then there are the millenials that were born at the end of the 20th century and were kids in the 21st century. The millennial generation defined in one word to me is “Global.” The word global defines my generation; global means that we can talk to someone on the other side of the globe in seconds. It means we can connect to those things that are happening both near us and far from us, also it means to be able to change the world with a touch of a button. Why is it important to learn about the millennial generation? It is important because this is the generation that will have a major impact in the future.

What does being a millennial mean? Well, to me, being a millennial means volunteering and helping out in the community. If that description of a millennial seems very strange to you, then you are probably viewing millenials through one of the many labels put on by the older generations. These labels say we are the most violent generation, we have the highest drug abuse rate and we are the most undedicated. To tell you the truth these labels are downright lies! We may not be the same as other generations. Actually we are very different from other generations. We have different outlooks in our schools, our jobs and in our relationships. In schools our outlook is to try to find new ways we can learn like doing hands on projects along with papers. We learn more experientially then through lectures and note-taking. In our jobs we like to share new ideas for collaborative progress. In our relationships we are open to more ways of communicating and we can be with a person even if we are not together physically through such things as e-mail, texting and MySpace. We set goals and work together to achieve those goals.

The labels that are put upon us change the way we are seen through the eyes of older generations. I can see those labels when I am around different generations; I see a real difference in the way we think and way we go about our day. When I am around a lot of teachers I can tell we think differently about a range of subjects and ideas. The same thing happens with my parents, we don’t see eye to eye. I think that cell phones help out the world but my parents believe there is no need to text or talk to someone you can see the next day.

Millenials are very different from the generations before us, perhaps the most unique yet. But it can be dangerous to put labels on us like we are very violent. This could lead to millenials never being trusted. As millenials we have different ways we go about our day and we are prepared to unite to face a challenge. We feel a need to help and save the world and we will do so without even thinking of ourselves. We can change the world but the question is, will it happen quietly or will we be the voice that is heard around the world?
